Ipswich Winter Night Shelter provide each guest with their own en-suite bedroom, home-cooked evening meals, the friendly company of our volunteers, breakfast and lunch, unlimited hot/cold drinks and snacks, a welcome pack containing toiletries and other essentials and appointments with our Empowerment Staff to help them solve their homelessness. We are privileged to work with many local organisations who support our guests with financial advice, health issues and much more. All guests are assessed by our staff before being offered a bed
Who does it
The Selig (Suffolk) Trust) employs staff who work alongside the local organisations that provide support to those who are homeless. Our Charity Manager sits on the Steering Group of the Ipswich Locality Homelessness Partnership and on the Rough Sleeper Initiative Steering Group lead by Ipswich Borough Council.
When the shelter is running we also employ part-time staff to check guests in and out of the shelter and to work with guests during the day.
Over 120 trained volunteers provide the shelter. They do one shift per fortnight/week to ensure that our guests are made welcome and kept safe. The shelter could not run without this team of wonderful and committed volunteers. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and churches and they give up their time to provide shelter, hope and hospitality.
